IPO Pipeline Signals Future Supply, Not Immediate Approval Pressure

SEBON’s staged review of 113 applicants gives traders a longer-term supply signal rather than a near-term issuance shock.

A longer-term supply signal

The Securities Board of Nepal’s staged review makes future equity supply the main trading implication, not an immediate wave of new listings. The regulator has placed 113 companies seeking initial public offering approval into five processing stages, showing that approvals will depend on sequential reviews rather than arrive at once.

The companies have applied to issue 510.9 million shares worth Rs71.42 arba, including offerings at par value and at a premium. That potential supply could become relevant to pricing and liquidity if approvals and subsequent offerings accelerate, but the published status does not set an issuance timetable.

Two companies at the final stage

Kantipur Pharmaceuticals Lab and Ashutosh Energy are at the last stage of the approval process. The regulator said 10 companies are in the fifth stage, where submitted responses are under review. Once the two companies at the final stage receive approval, the approval process for companies that have already submitted responses is expected to begin.

A further 19 applicants are in the fourth stage after sending replies or feedback to the regulator. Four companies are in the third stage, where SEBON has issued comments. Six remain in an initial review, while 76 companies are listed in the first stage.

SEBON said the applications are being screened through merchant bankers under instructions that set out the applicable standards. The staged list therefore provides traders with a clearer view of the queue, but not certainty that every applicant will reach the market.

Market context

The NEPSE index rose 31.54 points, or 1.18%, to 2,695.60 on 29 October. It was up 2.65% over five sessions and 2.96% over 20 sessions, so the broader market was firm as the regulator disclosed the pipeline. That performance is positioning context only and does not establish that the list caused the move.

The picture changes with the next approval decision: whether SEBON clears the two final-stage applicants and then advances the companies waiting on reviewed responses.
